1963 - Picardie, North France. Subsequent an inexplicable ramming and weapon assault on a Citroen DS in the centre of open country, and a club brawl involving several drunken Englishmen, Inspector Lucas Rocco (first experienced in DEATH ON THE MARAIS and DEATH ON THE RIVE NORD) finds herself driven into what's all of the hallmarks of the plan to assassinate President Charles de Gaulle - one of the most significant created on the French leader's existence. But why are British gangsters employed by a well-known couple of London gangland twins concerned, and that has set fire to an ex-military vehicle with a body inside? And why have people who made a previous abortive assault on the leader abruptly vanished?
