Darla Pettistone might have learned her great-aunt Dee’s Brooklyn bookstore, but it’s the store’s mascot—an oversized black-cat called Hamlet—who acts like he owns the area. And when somebody appears dead, Hamlet smells something bad in Brooklyn… As who owns Pettistone’s Good Publications, Darla is settling nicely into her new existence, actually achieving an uneasy truce with Hamlet. Regrettably, when she must employ a brand new worker, the finicky cat chooses to give a paw for the choosing procedure. He chases away candidates who don’t fulfill his acceptance, ultimately buying an improbable prospect: John, a book-loving Goth child who includes a key only Hamlet knows. And Hamlet can’t appear to keep out-of trouble.
