Nevertheless when Expenses enlists to fight in the 2Nd World-War, the household are plunged into poverty. Marion is compelled to pawn all her worldly belongings and chooses to consume two lodgers, Peggy Wagstaffe and Violet Clooney. Both of these energetic women bring some light relief for the household and bring together Peggy's fine buddy Mike -- who attracts the attention of Marion's sixteen-year-old girl, Sarah.
