As the main fighting of the Revolutionary War goes towards the south in summer time of 1779, a British force of less than one thousand Scottish infantry, supported by several sloops-of-war, sails for the fogbound coastline of New England. In reaction, Boston directs a fleet greater than forty ships and somebody thousand infantrymen to “captivate, destroy or destroy” the dangerous intruders.
