Description

Tim Yancy—late of the Miami Police and soon-to-be-late of the Monroe Region sheriff’s office—has a human arm in his fridge. There’s a reasonable (Hiaasenian) description for that, although not for how and why it separated from its shadowy proprietor. Yancy believes the sailing-crash/shark-lunch clarification is saturated in pockets, and if he is able to show homicide, the sheriff may save him from his grisly Health Inspector show (it’s not named the cockroach patrol for nothing). But first—this being Hiaasen country—Yancy should negotiate an obstacle span of wildly unpredictable occasions with a team of much more wildly unpredictable characters, including his only-ex-lover, a warm-blooded fugitive from Kansas; the restless widow of the freezing supply; two avariciously positive real-estate investors; the Bahamian voodoo witch referred to as the Dragon King, whose suitors are blinded unto death by her unusual necklaces; Yancy’s new genuine love, a kinky coroner; and the eponymous poor horse, who with amusing aplomb makes his spot among Carl Hiaasen’s best characters.
