Monetary straits and a desire to have a clean start consider recently widowed Meg Rosenthal and her aloof teen-age child, Sally, to Arcadia Drops, a hidden-away hamlet in upstate Ny where Meg has accepted a coaching position in a boarding-school. The creaky, forgotten pad they’ll be contacting house feels as though an ill omen, but Meg is decided to help make the best of it.
