Description
Chrétien de Troyes was a French trouvère and poet who prospered in the late 12th-century. Little is famous of his existence, but he seemingly have been from Troyes, or at least thoroughly associated with it, and between 1160 and 1172 he served at the court of his patroness Marie of France, Countess of Champagne, daughter of Eleanor of Aquitaine, possibly as herald at arms. His focus on subjects presents a few of the best-regarded of ancient literature. His utilization of framework, specific in Yvain, the Knight of the Lion, hasbeen regarded as a move towards the current book.
