Chris Connolly employs the most recent historic data from excavations of main fortifications to produce a comprehensive and intriguing face of common Roman forts and of the troopers who managed them along Hadrian's Wall and other Roman limitations for over 350 years. He starts with the actual development of roads and forts, using cross sections and cutaways that display the actual building methods the Romans utilized. Next he turns to the mansions and the troopers they managed. We consider their barracks to determine how they slept, cooked their meals, what they did for rest, how the plumbing worked, and how they prepared for combat.
