Parapsychologist Mike Towne thinks that spirits come from the individual brain, not from "beyond". To prove his theory, he encourages eight volunteers, including suspicious writer Joanna Mix, to be a part of an experiment. In a number of seances they create "Adam Wyatt," a heartbreaking Revolutionary War hero, and are delighted when he begins spelling out communications and rapping on platforms. Nevertheless when members of the team start dying in ways, it becomes clear that Adam has had on a weird and dangerous existence of their own -- one giving on their very feelings and ideas.
