An essential and effective cop hasbeen killed, bludgeoned to death in their own home. Several in suburban Surrey grieve the passing of Department Leader Alastair Gilbert, whose cruelty and selfishness were renowned in his town and in broader authorities groups -- which just makes the task of Scotland Yard detectives Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and Sergeant Gemma James harder. And as every breakthrough shows another example of festering strategies, lost confidence, and murderous anger, they have to reserve their very own personal thoughts for the victim -- and for eachother -- in the name of what the law states and justice.
