Description

A boy and his mother spend Christmas 1943 with family in northern Minnesota while his father is fighting in the battle in Europe.  They have a long trip by train into a wintry area of great icy ponds, heavy and glowing cold, and the absolute most enchanting Christmas tree the boy has actually seen.  He understands this will function as the last Christmas he'll spend with his relative, who's dying.  The boy's dad overhears both counterparts claim there's no Santa Claus, and in a great gesture that's nothing lacking a Christmas miracle, he maintains the kids's religion in the nature of the growing season.
