Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937) was an American writer of science fiction, and horror, fantasy, known then just as strange fiction. His main creation and motivation was cosmic terror: the concept that the world is ultimately strange and that existence is meaningless to individual thoughts. People who truly cause, like his protagonists, risk with sanity. He's created a cult-following for his Cthulhu Mythos, a number of often connected fictions having a pantheon of individual-nullifying organizations, in addition to the Necronomicon, an imaginary grimoire of mysterious rituals and forbidden lore.
