Within the community of Borough Park, where many Chassidim live, the guidelines individuals live by are decided by an old software created tens and thousands of years ago—and misuse hasn't been part of it. Nevertheless when thirteen-yearold Gittel discovers that her closest friend has endured mistreatment at the hands of the member of the family, the people in her neighborhood attempt to convince themselves, and Gittel, that nothing occurred. Pressured to stay quiet, Gittel starts to question everything she grew up to think. This horror—illuminates the turmoil between today’s actuality and yesterday’s customs, knowledge, and nuanced exploration of the complicated world—one of laughter.
