Description

A military history of the campaigns of Belisarius, the best general of the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Emperor Justinian. He twice conquered the Persians and reconquered North Africa from the Vandals in one single year in the age of 29, prior to going onto restore Spain and Italy, including Rome (shortly), from the barbarians. It covers the development from traditional Roman to Byzantine armies and methods of combat, in addition to those of the main enemies, the Persians, Goths and Vandals. It reassesses Belisarius' generalship and examines him with the kind of Caesar, Alexander and Hannibal.
