Description

Ten-yr-old Kahu, an associate of the Maori tribe of Whangara, New Zealand, fights to prove her love, her leadership, and her future. Her people claim ancestry from Kahutia Te Rangi, the legendary "whale rider." In most era since Kahutia, a male heir has inherited the title of chief. However now there's no male heir, and the chief is determined to locate a successor. Kahu is his only great-grandchild--and Maori custom doesn't have use for a woman.
