Detective Inspector Brown Micallef is having a poor year. After major back surgery, she goes into her ex-husband’s house to be maintained by his new spouse. As though that weren’t enough to handle, her octogenarian mother is requiring that Brown finish her reliance on painkillers—an insistence that takes the shape of privately eliminating Hazel’s deposit down the toilet. It’s almost a comfort when Brown gets a call in regards to a body present in among the ponds near Port Dundas.
