Because of her dark mom and her Irish father, Ruth "Penny" Borum may be the color of a brand new penny. Large-boned and once sassy, Ruth is nevertheless the organist and an associate in good standing of Antioch, Virginia's most outstanding black church--or at-least she was until she pulled the favorite Reverend Jonas Borum into an unpleasant breakup.
