Description

When Hackberry Netherlands turned sheriff of the small Texas town close to the Mexican border, he'd wished to keep certain things behind: his haunted desires, his checkered status, and his compulsive recollections of the great life together with his late partner, Rie. However the finding of the bodies of nine illegal aliens, machine-gunned to death and buried in a shallow grave behind a chapel, quickly causes it to be obvious he will not escape so quickly. As Crack and Deputy Sheriff Pam Tibbs make an effort to untangle the threads of the complicated and grisly situation, a broken youthful Iraq expert, Pete Flores, and his partner, Vikki Gaddis, are running for their lives, hoping to outsmart the bloodthirsty thieves who wish to destroy Pete for his participation in the killings. The only real difficulty is, Pete does not understand who heis operating from: afraid and drunk, he left the scene of the offense once the firing started.
