In 1958, eight-year-old Danny Lim has been delivered to get cigarettes when he understands that he's dropped the cash, for his dad. Frenzied, he pushes through Vancouver's Chinatown and behind a club, where he recognizes Miss Val, an extended-time club dancer. Danny is enraptured with her sequined silk gown and garters, and Val, handled by his enchantment, provides him a package of cigarettes and her silk buckle.
