Description
José Saramago was eighteen months old when he transferred in the town of Azinhaga together with his mother and dad to reside in Lisbon. But he'd return to the town throughout his childhood and adolescence to remain together with his maternal grandparents, illiterate peasants in the eyes of the exterior world, but a fount of information, love, and expert to youthful José. Shifting back and forth between childhood and his teen-age years, between Azinhaga and Lisbon, this can be a variety of thoughts, a merely told, impacting search back in to the author’s boyhood: the sad death of his older brother at age four; his mom pawning the family’s covers every springtime and purchasing them back over time for winter; his favorite grandparents getting the weaker piglets to their sleep on chilly evenings; and Saramago’s early encounters with literature, from training herself to see by deciphering posts in the daily paper, to poring over an enjoyable discussion in a Colonial-French discussion manual, not noticing he was actually reading a play by Molière. Written with Saramago’s characteristic humor and integrity, Little Recollections traces the forming of an artist fascinated by words and tales from an early age and who surfaced, against all odds, as you of the world’s respected authors.
