Barton Edmunds had fled the death penalty. He was helping his thirty-second year of several consecutive life sentences for murders he stated he didn’t dedicate. Based on his account, the plantation was quiet when he'd arrived for work that evening. Feeling strongly that anything was wrong, he claims he pushed his way in to the Davenport home.
