May a bright woman feel athome on an Indian reservation? Centered on the author’s youth encounter in the first 1960s, this debut story centers on Kitty, whose dad is just a govt forester at Warm Springs Reservation, Oregon. Kitty is among only two bright kids in her course, and the kids are keeping their distance. As time passes, Kitty becomes increasingly conscious of the concerns and prejudices between whites and Indians, and of yesteryear suffering and injustice still greatly living to the booking.
