Ny, L A, and Washington, D.C., have been abandoned. The Bill of Rights has been suspended, and changed with the Ethical Statutes. There are no further police—instead, there are troopers. There are no further penalties for poor behavior—instead, there are trials, arrests, and perhaps worse. Individuals who get imprisoned often do not come back. Seventeen-yr-old Ember Burns is old enough to consider that issues weren’t often in this way. Coping with her edgy simple mom, it’s difficult for her to overlook that individuals weren’t usually imprisoned for reading the incorrect books or keeping out at night.
