Description

The town captured its collective breath when upscale pair Byrne and Susan Hollander were slaughtered in a brutal home invasion. A couple of days later, the murders themselves have resulted in dead behind the closed door of the Brooklyn hellhole -- one seemingly slain by his partner-in-crime who then took their own life, today. There's something sketching Matthew Scudder for this situation that the police have rapidly and excitedly shut: a nagging feeling that a next guy is concerned, a chilly, diabolical puppet-master who manipulates his two accomplices, then reduces their strings when he's completed with them. No body but Scudder also thinks he prevails.
