Around 1969 I started initially to grow dissatisfied with the fundamental theory on most books---that the disembodied voice in the very first or third-person was telling us a tale. I preferred the thought of books as files passing themselves off, and received inspiration from Mark Harris's AWAKEN, SILLY, and Sue Kaufman's DIARY OF A MAD HOUSEWIFE, the ostensibly an accumulation of characters, the 2nd, duh, a diary. (You could, obviously, return further, to the origins of the English novel in the works of Daniel Defoe and Samuel Richardson.)I also found myself considering publishing with greater candor about intimate subjects. I'd knocked-out a large number of soft-key paperbacks, and desired to try over with greater independence and more realism.I authored three book original books for Berkley underneath the pen-name Jill Emerson, two of these in journal form, the 3rd an assumed collaborative book created in show from the three standpoint figures.
