Goldie Roth is an experienced liar and just a trained thief. Along side her buddy Toadspit, she is said to be among the Owners of the mystical Memorial of Dunt. But though she desperately really wants to be considered an Owner, she'll not abandon her ill parents to complete so.But when Toadspitis cousin Bonnie is taken, he and Goldie are pressured to check out the kid-stealers for the nearby town of Mention. On the way, Toadspit also is taken, and Goldie is swept up in the Event of Lies, where each word she says indicates another thing and no-one can be trusted.
