Description

This innovative perform starred Sidney Poitier, Claudia McNeill, Ruby Dee and Diana Sands in the Broadway production which opened in 1959. Set on Chicago's South Side, the story revolves round the issues and desires within three decades of younger family: son Walter Lee, his wife Ruth, his brother Beneatha, his son Travis and matriarch Lena, named Mother. Mother desires of relocating into a much better community and a new house in Chicago, when her departed spouse's insurance money comes through. Walt Lee, a chauffeur, has different ideas, however: being their own person and purchasing a liquor shop.
