Her name is Omakayas, or Little Frog, because her first faltering step was a hop, and she lives on an island in Lake Superior. Oneday in 1850, Omakayas′s area is visited with a number of mystical people. From their store, she learns that the chimookomanag, or white people, want Omakayas and her people to leave their area and transfer further west. That evening, Omakayas realizes that something so valuable, so important that she never knew she'd it in the very first place, might be at risk: Her life-style.
