The M16 was first launched in 1958 and was groundbreaking because of its time because it was made from light components including parts and aluminum, which had formerly not been utilized in conventional guns. It was first used by US Special Forces and flying soldiers in 1962 before it was released to Army and Marine units serving in the Vietnam War (1955-1975). Its use spread through the subsequent years and numerous variations including carbine and submachine variations were also fielded. It had been not just the gun itself that demonstrated groundbreaking.
