Ed McBain made his debut in 1956. In 2004, greater than a hundred publications later, he privately gathered twenty-five of his stories before he was Ed McBain. All-But five of them were first printed in the investigator journal Manhunt written and none of them seemed underneath the Ed McBain byline. They certainly were compiled by Evan Hunter (McBainis appropriate title at the time of 1952), Richard Marsten (a pseudonym based on the titles of his three kids), or Hunt Collins (honoring his alma mater, Hunter College).
