He'd find his method to California, start a head look, and create his first festival—Miami Place, featuring Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and others—then go Woodstock, where, after assembly Artie Kornfeld, his eyesight for an event where people might come and stay for a couple of days amid the rural splendor of upstate Ny would turn into a fact. With Artie, fresh companions John Roberts and Joel Rosenman, and his hand-picked team, Lang reserved expertise, from Janis Joplin and the Who for the practically unknown Santana and Crosby, Stills and Nash; gained over brokers, marketers, and townspeople; required on fleets of volunteers; constructed a celebration website from the floor up; and, ultimately, produced the landmark social event that defined a generation.
