Possibly to complement their native causes, or to perform specific endeavors, perhaps of reprisal, perhaps also of purchase. On Gor there are many mercenary businesses, some bigger, some smaller, whose solutions might be bought, or bet upon, for given amounts of time. The allegiance of those businesses would be to their captains, and pay.
