Everybody who visited the Black-Cat Coffeehouse in attractive, rural Ashland, Wisconsin, understood Joe Abramov. Joe was the neighborhood odd, a"predictable fixture" at the Black Cat,"as much a part of the scene as the aroma of good coffee." Whether Joe was requiring that the CIA was spying on him or speaing frankly about striking it big in the lottery, Ashland citizens found anticipate--actually rely on--his everyday discussions. When Joe goes missing and is later found dead, the regulars in the Black-Cat are naturally annoyed. Nevertheless when it is unearthed that Joe may have been murdered, the city of Ashland is rocked to its core.
