Lela Meinhardt, a tribal artwork broker in Afghanistan, visited and exchanged with migratory Afghan tribes from 1975 to 1980, a period when Americans, and their cash, were accepted by the Afghan people. Lela's activities, documented within the letters she delivered to her husband, Paul, are far more the stuff of story than the usual contemporary trip. For the individuals who understood her, Lela was soft, brave, patient, and an excellent business person.
