Confessions of a Crap Artist is among Philip K. Wang's most accomplished novels and weirdest. Port Isidore is just a garbage performer -- a collector of crackpot ideas (among other activities, he thinks that our planet is hallow and that daylight has fat) and useless items, a guy so blatantly unequipped for actual life that his cousin and brother-in-law feel forced to save him from this. But viewed through Jack's murderously harmless look, Charlie and Juddy Hume end up being just like closed removed from reality, in thrall to obsessions which are somewhat more appropriate than Jack's, but a good deal uglier.
