Alan Duncan returns to Australia following the war and many years of research in England. But his homecoming is damaged by the strange destruction of his parents’ dependable and calm parlour-maid. A search through her possessions in search of clues results in tragic facts concerning the identity, the demise of Alan’s buddy Statement, and, most importantly, the disappearance of his brother’s girlfriend.
