Each year, Ceyala "Lala" Reyes' family--aunts, uncles, mothers, fathers, and Lala's six older brothers--packs up three cars and, in a wild ride, drive from Chicago to the Small Grandfather and Awful Grandmother's house in Mexico City for summer time. Desperate for a voice above the boom of her siblings and to comprehend her put on this part of the boundary and that, Lala is just a wise observer of family living. Nevertheless when she begins showing the Awful Grandmother's life-story, seeking clues to how she surely got to be so awful, grandmother accuses Lala of fueling. Quickly, a multigenerational household story becomes a whirlwind pursuit of story-telling, existence, and lies.
