Like every other servant about the Maryland plantation, her life might finish in the loom, Through the pre-Civil War South, older slaves also worn-out for whatever else worked daily in the plantationis loom space, making and weaving fabric for their own families. Ignored by most everybody and tucked-Away out-of-sight, the knowledge and hard-won connection with these slaves were often-overlooked. But Lydia, a light skinned home servant, listens for their terms and aspirations of a much better existence.
