Description

Julian Treslove, an appropriately unimpressive former BBC radio company, and Mike Finkler, a well known Jewish thinker, author, and television character, are old-school buddies. Despite a prickly relationship and different lifestyles, they will have never-lost contact with one another, or with their former instructor, Libor Sevcik. Eating together one-night at Sevcikis the Gentile and apartment—the two Jewish widowers, Treslove—the males reveal a sweetly unpleasant nighttime, reminiscing on the period before they'd valued something significantly enough to worry the increasing loss of it, before they'd loved and lost. But as Treslove makes his way house, he's robbed and assaulted outside a cello seller's screen.
