The Final of the Scores and Other Tales of Sometime Ago: Product Information Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle, DL (1859-1930) was a Scottish writer. He's most known for his stories concerning the detective Sherlock Holmes, which are usually considered a significant innovation in the area of crime fiction, and for the activities of Professor Competition. He was a prolific writer whose other works include science fiction stories, historical novels, plays and romances, poetry, and non-fiction. His first important work was Research in Scarlet, which appeared in Beeton's Christmas Annual for 1887 and presented the first appearance of Sherlock Holmes, who was partly modelled after his former college teacher, Joseph Bell.
